Abstract
The study
was conducted to assess the effect of probiotic supplementation on growth
parameters viz. body weight, body height, chest girth and body length of
Osmanabadi kids. A multi-strain commercially available probiotic (Protexin)
containing Lactobacillus species, Streptococcus species and Yeast was
administered orally at a dose rate of 2 gm per 25 kg body weight daily for 2
months to the treatment group. At the end of the first and second week, all the
growth parameters were higher in the treatment group as compared to the control
group, though the difference was not statistically significant. However, from
the third week onwards, all growth parameters were significantly higher in the
treatment group as compared to the control group.
